About Nance

Nance is an AI financial controller colleague: an agent that works across the whole financial stack, from accounting software like ERPs to broader business software like email and Slack. She helps finance teams and accountants get mundane tasks done and derives complex insights from diverse data sources. Our mission is to make Nance feel and operate like the best finance employee anyone has ever hired.

As a team we believe fast iteration can only happen in an environment with minimal process, individual agency and trust in each other’s work.

We’re a small engineering team with a high bar and few layers of process. You’ll report directly to our hands-on founding team.

The role

You’ll own the foundation Nance runs on: the agent harness, the infrastructure underneath it, and the security that lets finance teams trust her with their books.

Nance works inside our customers’ accounting software, bank data and inboxes, around the clock. That means long-running agent workflows that have to be reliable, a platform that has to scale with every new customer, and financial data that has to stay safe. You’ll make the core decisions on all three, and build the platform our product engineers ship on.

What you'll do

• Own the agent harness: how Nance plans, calls tools, manages memory and recovers when something fails, built to run reliably at scale.

• Scale the platform as we grow: performance, cost, queueing and concurrency for many agents working in parallel across many customers.

• Own our infrastructure on Google Cloud: deployments, infrastructure as code, monitoring, alerting and incident response.

• Lead security across the stack: tenant isolation, secrets and credential management for customer integrations, access control, audit logging and data protection.

• Build the observability we need for AI software: tracing, logging and metrics that show what the agent did and why.

• Make the rest of the team faster: good tooling, CI/CD and developer experience, so product engineers can ship safely.

• Use AI coding tools as a default part of your daily workflow, and help raise the bar for how the whole team uses them.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of professional software engineering, with significant time on backend, infrastructure or platform work in production.

• You’ve designed and run systems that had to scale, and you’ve been on call for them.

• Strong security instincts. You’ve handled sensitive data in production and know how to protect it.

• Deep Python experience and solid cloud fundamentals. Google Cloud is a plus, but AWS or Azure experience transfers.

• Experience building on LLMs, or a strong interest in the hard engineering problems of running agents in production.

• Comfortable without PM overhead: you’ve worked in a small, high-ownership team and make architecture decisions yourself.

• Fluent daily user of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex or similar).

• Rigorous about correctness and data handling.

• Fluent in English. Dutch is a plus, not a requirement.

Bonus points

• Experience with financial data, fintech, or accounting/ERP systems.

• Experience building agent frameworks, workflow engines or other long-running job systems.

What we offer

• €80.000 to €100.000 gross per year including holiday allowance, depending on experience.
